Dr Liam Fox Opens New Pittards Shoe Factory in Ethiopia

British International Trade Secretary Dr Liam Fox has opened Pittards’ new shoe factory during a recent visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia where he announced that the UK has doubled the amount of export finance it is making available to support UK-Ethiopia bilateral trade.

Pittards currently manufactures over one million pairs of work gloves each year at our Ethiopian factories together with dress gloves and ski gloves. The opening of the shoe factory marks the beginning of a new venture into hand sewing footwear for Soul of Africa, a social enterprise whose aim is to provide skills, earnings and support to communities in Africa. The new factory currently employs 70 people, adding to the 1,500 strong work force currently employed at Pittards factories in Ethiopia.
